I feel like my Facebook family has supported me through the darkest time Ive ever known. Not just losing my dad and uncle but other more private troubles too, that have bought turmoil into my generally very lucky life. Without realising it, you have all kept me strong when doubt crept in and for that I would like to thank each and every one of you, particularly those special few behind the scenes who have quietly comforted me. So Id like to share my last goodbye. It was written, under a tree while the rain poured down, the night before D-DAY.... Like my dad, Im not one for talking..... ! (Joke!) But just this once I actually cant. Ive had 43 years to prepare for this inevitable moment, Saying goodbye to my loving daddy. And despite being a great chatterbox just like dad, Words fail me. He always taught me to delegate, so thats exactly what Im going to do. (thank you Derek for reading this on my behalf) What IS a good dad? A good dad is someone who teaches you the about the world we live in. Well My dad certainly did that! He was extra special as he made sure Russell and I had SUCH an adventure growing up. What life experience! Changing my nappy in the boot of his Rolls Royce is something my dad never failed to talk about. Particularly at dinner parties and There were many of those. Our round the world trip when I was 7yrs old taught me more than I could possibly have EVER experienced in a classroom.it was an adventure that Ive treasured and has given me endless stories to tell, even helping me to get my first job. When I say FIRST job what I actually mean is my FIRST PAID JOB where I wasnt rewarded with with ice cream. Dad also certainly knew how to teach me what I DIDNT want to do for a living. Running the shop on our caravan park was SO boring and cleaning toilets....lets not even go there!! Dad always knew how to embarrass his kids too, on fact he did this without even trying. His dress sense, oh my goodness.... his DRESS SENSE!!I Picture me, age 13 laughing along with the kids in the adventure playground on our caravan park, pretending I didnt know him. I was certainly not going to admit that the chap emptying the bins with his trademark LONG KNEE HIGH SOCKS AND SHORTS was my dad! Our home was always full of friends, acquaintances and even strangers! but more importantly EVERYONE was made to feel welcome. Thats my dad for you. But these were life lessons. Pulling together as a family, through good times and bad. I believe thats down to LOVE, hard work and family dedication. Dad, You taught me to LIVE LIFE to the full. To take risks, to have fun, to never say never and even then Just do it! You taught me how to pour whiskey - 3 fingers high... Is that a TRIPLE now my fingers are no longer the size of an 8yr old? You gave me confidence to speak to strangers and to be inquisitive, to work hard and never give up and most of all how to be happy. And when I married and started my own family at a REALLY young age; you were accepting as always and welcomed Steve into our family. When your grandchildren came along, Dalton, Dakota and Logan, you supported us in every way you could. In fact you loved them so much that often you wouldnt let me take them home! Your character and spirit live on in my children, Dalton, Cody and Logan, and Russells & Cindys children Harrison and William. They were all very lucky to have such a very very special grampa. But didnt they know it.... Wherever you went you made sure you chatted to the world with another of your sayings Do you know who I am? Im Paul Harper as if the world knew you. But you were proud of who you were and we are proud to have had you in our lives for so long. You certainly made your mark. So Paul Harper, Its not good-bye but just farewell till we meet again. however I WILL be Daddys Girl FOREVER PS thanks for the horse. Youd already won my heart though:-)
