I feel that I have to share a brief insight into the absolute crap and garbage a small construction company has to go through to try to win work for the public sector in Northern Ireland. I am currently preparing a tender to supply play equipment to an un-named council. This tender has a POTENTIAL high value, but no guarantee WHATSOEVER that there will be ANY value to it, i.e. we are doing this tender because we feel that we have to and will lose out on potential business if we dont, but the council in question give NO PROMISE WHATSOEVER that they will buy anything. Now, bear in mind that I have already put about 40-50 hours work into it. I am now only at the start of answering 580+ questions on the supply of play equipment! Some examples of the questions: Does your equipment have anti-vandal fixings? YES Why are the fixings anti-vandal? Take a big effing guess, Sherlock!!! We wish you to supply a 6 metre high spacenet What height is the item? Hmm... let me see Just two of many mindless, mind-numbing questions written by mindless pen-pushers in public service, running this country on our behalf. Pen pushing bureaucrats creating mounds of useless, worthless paper in an effort to make it look like they are working and to justify their own existance. This is the latest in a long long line of such tenders. The bureaucracy breeds bureaucracy, and there is no sign of the trend ever ending. Is it any wonder that small construction companies struggle in this day and age to keep going. Ho hum, back to work.....
