I feel the weight of conflicting emotions tonight, God. Tonight, - TopicsExpress

I feel the weight of conflicting emotions tonight, God. Tonight, I read of the announcement from #Ferguson that the grand jury decided not to indict the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown. I know I dont know what happened that led to the shooting, and I know I dont know if justice was served - I just dont have enough information. What I do know is that my country is still suffering from the sickness of racism, the residual infection from slavery. And my heart weeps for the parents of children - overwhelmingly people of color - who have been killed by police officers. And my heart weeps for the suffering people of color endure because of white-skin privilege. Tonight, I got to spend time with people of many ethnicities and religious traditions, people who came together to celebrate thanksgiving with prayers and songs and sacred texts and chants and meditations. Such a diverse group of people together in one room, embracing and celebrating their differences with respect. And my heart rejoices that we can hear and respect each other. And my heart rejoices that events like these help reduce Christian privilege in U.S. society. God, I give you thanks for Interfaith Thanksgiving service. I give you thanks for the little acts that move us away from privilege and toward equality. And I give you thanks for all the people who are working non-violently for justice, equality, freedom, and peace throughout the United States of America.
