I figure Ive seen a ton of posts over the past day or two with optimists asking pessimists what drove us to this point, as if it takes some incredibly life shattering event to bring one to pessimism. So, my fellow pessimists, anti-natalists and nihilists, here you go: what brought you to this ideology? For me it was very simple, Ive always been skeptical of authority and dogmatic beliefs, I never bought into life is great although my life hasnt been anywhere near bad, its certainly not great. Tie that together with the fact that Ive never been content with being mentally stagnant, I constantly question my ideas, the things I agree with I attempt to disprove them. So the philosophies I agreed with before finally giving pessimism a shot simply did not mix well with my need to question everything. That would be how I came to be a pessimist, a love for knowledge and need to question everything. It seems that the majority of philosophies out there dont hold up to scrutiny like pessimism. This isnt a choice of a man whos depressed, only optimists view our stance as depressing. Before I gave pessimism a shot, I was really depressed, now that I have read pessimism in depth, the depression went away, Ive enjoyed myself over the past year more than I have in a long time. So lets hear it, I figure I would make this post just so that way I dont have to respond to individual private messages or copy/paste this into several threads that are currently active. To cap it off, I will simply say this: the one truly negative thing that has happened to all of us is the fact that we were born and from that moment, we are cursed to suffer. The bad outweighs the good, yes, however, this isnt necessarily depressing its just basic observation of the world.
