I figure my non- Tough Mudder friends will get the biggest kick out of this... Here is my gear list for the Worlds Toughest Mudder - 24 hours of non-stop extreme Tough Mudder, being hosted this year outside Las Vegas on Nov 15-16. You complete as many laps of the 5 mile course as possible with 22 extreme obstacles each loop. You have a pit area where you can keep gear and food. You are either on the course or in the pit for 24 hrs! Browse the full message for funny tips along with the gear. Gear list edited for 2014 All things neoprene - 5mm Ocean Quest Premium Super Stretch Titanium Wetsuit (Full suit) - 3 mm NeoSport Wetsuit Jacket and - 3mm NeoSport Long John Wetsuit - Neoprene Short sleeve shirt - Hyperflex Wetsuit Men’s Polyolefin S/S Rash Gaurd - Hood – H2Odyssey Montery 5/3mm (XLarge) - Neoprene swim cap with chin strap – Blue Seventy Skull Cap (Large) - 2 pair LavaCore by Oceanic Trilaminate Polytherm Dive Socks - 2 pair 3mm Gloves (Large) Hyperflex Mesh Skin - 5mm Gloves (XLarge) Hyperflex Mesh Skin (Why so many gloves? You will need a replacement pair in case one gets a big rip in it. You also need one pair that is bigger than you can imagine needing in case your hands swell.) Warmer weather clothes - Pearl Izumi ¾ length compression running knickers (I wear these to most TM’s. I would highly recommend something to protect your knees from scrapes. You don’t want to be peeing on scraped knees later!) - Long sleeve and short sleeve Under Armour compression shirts (Heat gear) - Under Armour gloves - Under Armour Tactical Hood – Could be great for dust, but could be obnoxious once wet - Buff – to help protect face from blowing sand - Under Armour compression shorts - Thin runing shorts (these can be handy to wear over your wetsuit to protect your suit from tears if lots of rough surfaces you are scooting your butt over – weren’t necessary last year) Underlayer for wetsuit - 2 pair - 2XU Thermal Compression tops - 2 pair - 2XU Thermal Compression bottoms (has a drawstring in the waist. Under Armour Cold Gear does NOT have a drawstring.) - Under Armour compression shorts and shirt (listed above) Overlayer for wetsuit - Neoprene does NOT protect against wind - Cheap windbreaker jacket and pants Feet - 2 pair Wool Injinji crew socks - 2 pair Wool knee length compression socks - 2 pair LavaCore by Oceanic Trilaminate Polytherm Dive Socks (listed above) - Saucony 4.0 Xodus GTX shoes (1/2 size larger than normal when I add the Lavacore neoprene socks) - Saucony 5.0 Xodus GTX shoes (my normal TM shoes) - 2 pair Pearl Izumi Gaiters Lights *****YOU HAVE TO BRING 2 headlamps and strobe lights!!! If you lose one or one breaks you CANNOT continue at night. - Main lamp for me – Princeton TecApex Pro Headlamp that uses 2 lithium CR 123’s - Spare - Underwater Kinetics 3AAA Vizion eLED Headlamp - Nathan Strobe Light (2) - Something to tie your headlamp to your bib with (I used twine). It will fall off a lot. Don’t want to lose it in the lake!!! - Extra batteries Running accessories - Camelbak – I used it last year. Not sure I will use it this year. I would have the larger size bladder. Less stopping to fill. - Running belt big enough for gels and a couple of snickers at least - Garmin watch - Simple wrist stop watch to measure lap time and keep track of time Tent stuff - FYI: I shared 2 tents with my friend and running mate last year. No guarantees on space but in years past each person has been allotted a space approximately 10x12 feet. - 4 man tent – we put all our gear, food, etc in this one. We were in and out of it - 2 man tent – we put our sleeping stuff in there. Never went inside this tent. - Sleeping bag - Backpacking air mattress (for cold weather) - Space blanket (heavy duty) we lined the floor of our tent with this. One blanket underneath is worth two on top. - Pair of warm weather clothes to change into when all was done. Had this also in case I had to stop running due to injury but stay comfortable and warm until 24 hrs was up. - Clean shoes - Coat - Small lantern to light tent - Heat packs (open pack and auto warm) - Thin space blankets (disposable) - Camping chair for pit crew - Garbage bags - Zip ties - Large paper bags to bundle changes of gear (example = wetsuit, hood, gloves and warm underlayer) - Scissors Personal care – first rule is you can’t over lubricate. Once you chafe it will hurt the rest of the race. Also concentrated urine burns. - Gurney Goo – expensive Silicone based body lubricant from New Zealand. Doesn’t dissipate as quickly as petroleum based lubricants - Aquaphor and Gold Bond powder mix (add enough of the YELLOW bottle gold bond powder to the Aquaphor to make it gray) – works as a whole body lubricant - Body Glide - Chapstick - Sunblock? - Desitin – Diaper rash ointment - Baby wipes - Towels - Laundry detergent and quarters for if you plan on doing laundry at your hotel before returning home. Muddy clothes are fine but urine soaked clothes. Hmmmm. - Acid blocker (Pepcid, Zantac?) and Antacids (TUMS) - Naproxen – don’t overdose but will help - Turmeric. Natural anti inflammatory. I swear by this stuff. - KT tape? - Ace wrap - Athletic tape - Foam roller and/or hand held roller massager (my favorite = roguefitness/pro-tec-roller-massager) - Bandaids and antibiotic ointment Food - Whatever works for you. Make sure you run and eat whatever you are going to take in advance. The most important thing is to not get dehydrated or your stomach will stop moving and you will not be able to get further calories and hydration in. - Fun size Snickers. Calorie dense Yum yum. - Also I like the running gels made by AccelGel. - Carbs, carbs, carbs - Some type of electrolyte calorie containing drink - Electrolyte tablets - Megawatt HD by 1st Phorm. This Preworkout drink will give you the drive you need to keep going at 1 am. This works for me WITHOUT stimulating my bowels. Not fun in a wetsuit. #WorldsToughestMudder #ToughMudder #1stPhorm #LegionOfBoom #iam1stphorm #1stphorm4life #nextlevelshit
