I finally bought a flight ticket to Bangkok, the cheapest and the nearest to home. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all who helped. I received generous kind donations and messages from friends and strangers. Its overwhelming to know people everywhere do care. Its my little social experiment to see either or not people will give a helping hand or merely a bystander effect. Its also to see if i could really depend on crowdfunding platform for future projects. My focus group is Malaysian. Ive been planning this for several months probably since i was in Bucharest and i shared to some of the contemporary artists i met during my first month there. They invited me to a social art and reciprocity workshop (goo.gl/BVTRdy) by a visiting professor from Netherlands, Erik Hagoort (erikhagoort.nl) organised by Bucharest Artists in Residence (bucharestair). One of the interesting questions was: How do we document a social art project? and Erik explained: Since social art is about ethic, the more ethical question is SHOULD we document a social art project? He also explained that the philosophy behind social art is; that there is no artist and there is no audience. Its more about the emotion connection and social interaction build between the two. Therefore, the relationship build is the artwork itself. He then continued, the total effects of social art project is that people will contribute with no expectation of rewards just purely a generous act of kindness. Majority of the people that pledged for this social experiment mentioned that they didnt want anything in return, just hope for my safe return and continue to inspire. I believe in people helping people to create a good society. I believe change should start from within. I believe it should start with you and me. “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” - Rumi. I do not 100% agree with street protests but it doesnt mean i disagree with the concept either. I just dont see a huge impact by doing so. Ask ourselves, does it do more good than harm? And how does it change our country and society till now? For better or worse? Result: Goal - EUR300 Funded - 89.3% Pledged - EUR267.90 (MYR1102.20) Malaysia - 9 Canada - 1 Poland - 1 Germany - 1 Italy - 1 Brunei - 1 Indonesia - 1 Malaysian - 60% International - 40% Malaysian pledged - 56.85% International pledged - 43.15% Friends - 46.6% Strangers - 53.4% Women - 80% Men - 20% Once again, thank you.
