I finally finished watching Holocaust, the more than seven hour - TopicsExpress

I finally finished watching Holocaust, the more than seven hour mini-series that first appeared on television back in 1978. The acting is absolutely superb, from Meryl Streep to James Woods to Rosemary Harris to Sam Wanamaker to so many others. The story is relentlessly compelling, keeping me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Paradoxically, I could not stop watching it, and yet its intensity and extreme cruelty and sorrow made me switch it off every few minutes or so. And now I feel a sense of frustration, because I know that the world truly does not give a darn about what happened all those years ago in Europe. Jewish blood is cheap, and the moment Jews raise any objections to being murdered, stereotyped, or otherwise persecuted, the world responds by finding other ways to continue abusing my Jewish people. Antisemitism did not start with the nazis, nor has it ended with them either. Apparently, all the Holocaust taught the world, is how to find more politically correct ways to hate my people. They say we must never forget, but I am not sure that the world has ever remembered it in the first place.
