I finally gave in, and then I got the number 13. Unlucky? Here are 13 random things you may or may not know about me: 1) I may have been responsible for a large chunk of the hole in the ozone given the amount of hairspray I used in the 80s. 2) I have a real problem with texture when it comes to food. The thought of oysters absolutely gags me. Cottage cheese? NEVER. 3) In fact, given my druthers, I would eat things that are very similar to what small children eat. Mac N Cheese, PB&J, Chicken Fingers, Pizza, etc. I secretly still wish my Mom would cut my initials out of colby cheese like she used to. 4) Getting the mail is still one of my favorite times of the day. I think it goes back to when my friend Julie Zaugra Babcock moved away and Id wait to get her letters. Unfortunately, these days most of the mail is bills or ads, but when I get a glorious card from a friend in there, my day is made. 5) I am harder on myself than anyone else could be on me. I expect myself to be perfect and am obviously frequently disappointed. Its also what helped push me to work very hard through school and work lives...and still today. 6) I hate being the center of attention. I would much rather be a wallflower or with a small group of people I know well and just sort of blend in. This coupled with #5 made for some miserable times in high school, college, and work when I would win an award for one thing or another and then have to come up and be recognized. 7) Despite #6, I dont mind at all getting up in front of a crowd to talk, as long as its about a topic other than me. I loved doing training in front of large groups and did just fine in speech classes or presentations to senior management at work. 8) I firmly believe that respect is earned. Yes, you need to treat people with respect if they have worked hard enough to earn a title, but just because you have a title, it doesnt mean I respect you as a person. People earn respect by acting with integrity and working hard. I find it very hard to work in a job where I dont respect my boss. 9) I like a ridiculously wide range of music. Anything from Kenny Rogers, the 60s, Phil Collins, 80s hair metal, Metallica, Michael Jackson, just about anything 80s, Pink, Eminem. And then some. 10) I thought I had accomplished some pretty challenging things in my life. And then I became Joeys mom. This has been harder than anything I could have imagined, but rewarding beyond measure. 11) I would LOVE to be a personal shopper for people when theyre trying to buy gifts. I believe gift giving is an art. I study people for months before an event, listening for them to give the slightest clue so I can buy or make them something truly amazing. I love to watch people open gifts I have purchased for them. :) 12) I bite my nails. Im sure people are horrified when they see the little nubs that are left. Im horrified. Ive stopped a few times and then either boredom or stress comes in and WHAM theyre gone in a flash. Yes, I know how disgusting it is and all the germs and blah blah blah. We all have a vice. This and Mountain Dew are mine. 13) I have the most ridiculously large feet you have ever seen. Its not just the length, its more the width. I literally own two pairs of shoes right now that dont make me want to cry - a pair of Birkenstock sandals and a pair of tennis shoes - and, yes, theyre both in mens sizes. If I win the lottery some day, I will have shoes custom made for me. Thank goodness I dont go anywhere because dress pants or skirts dont look as nice when theyre accompanied by Birkenstocks or black tennies. Hopefully youve enjoyed learning something new about me.
