I finally got around to watching the Vice News video that everyone was talking about, and two quotes jumped out at me: (1) De big fish doh come, doh deal direct.....dem is de men who behind de curtain. Dem hiding, leaving us in de frontline. - Dreadie (2) The reality is that the most powerful players who are resident in Trinidad in the illicit drug trade have then the need to purchase impunity from the state. They have to be political financiers, and that is what drives the endemic corruption of the society. When people speak of corruption in the society all they look at is the most visible means, the lower level ones, the one who get caught taking a bribe and things like that. The traffickers who live in Trinidad and Tobago, they wield power within the state structure to the extent that nobody in the state structure can bring them down. - Darius Figuera Are PNMites brave enough to DEMAND an open and transparent party and campaign financing regime of their party? Or will we spread the propaganda that somehow Keith Rowley is immune to the repayment demands of financiers who hide behind the curtain, only to emerge when cabinet and state board appointments are made, and when contracts are to be awarded? We PNM members and supporters need to support our Political Leader on this - and not by sitting idly by like constipated dummies convincing ourselves that he will take money from whoever and then keep them all in line when he becomes Prime Minister. We need to support him by demanding that we the people become part of the party financing process beyond party dues, fundraisers, and car raffles; and demanding that all financiers be treated the same with respect to disclosure. Anything less, and it will only be a matter of time before the next PNM administration finds itself exactly where the PP is today. In this dark hour driving down the highway of our nations history, do we care to flick on our political high beam and see that far down the road, or are we merely content to leave the low beam on and simply focus on General Election 2015??
