I finally got to watch this. Ive worked with a few transgender clients, who had me as their only option in this rural area, and I had no idea that the stats show gender certainty between the ages of 3-5. I thought, while early feelings were present at a young age, that awareness of being transgender was generally more progressive and only diagnostic in teens and older people. This earlier age range means people spend 13 to 20 years or more just fighting all the systems they live in, including the one that should be helping the most - the mental health system, before they can even begin to live as themselves. Imagine what that does to you. Im so happy for this little boy and amazed by his parents. Im also really horrified and upset at my own lack of awareness about an issue I have worked with clinically and about what 99.9% of transgender people still face.
