I finally took my doctors advice and got a plant grow light. I put it in the ceiling fan over the kitchen table. I tried to find a LED or even a CFL one, but the LED version was prohibitively expensive and the CFL one was nonexistent. So I gave in and bought an old-fashioned incandescent one. Its not a heat lamp, just your normal, everyday runna the mill spotlight. 65 watts. But I swear sitting at the table under it, a good five or six feet away, I can feel the heat emanating from it. Not hot by any means, not even technically warm, but just enough to tell the difference between it and room temperature. I dont remember being able to feel the heat coming off incandescents when that was all there were, unless of course you put your hand right next to it or on it. Certainly not six feet away from it. But if they were wasting enough energy to feel the heat six feet away, maybe they SHOULD have been phased out. By the market, of course, not government dictate, but phased out nonetheless. But then, I guess if theyre hot enough to bake a cake in a little pink Easy Bake Oven ...
