I find Bill OReillys language very problematic and troubling. He states that the officer should have loosened the grip, that Garner shouldnt have resisted, that we should pity the family and that Garner didnt deserve that...all of which implicitly place the blame on the victim. Of course this is because he is White and speaks from a place of power and privilege, especially being a media anchor. Just goes to show how critical a role that language plays in subtle racist rhetoric. We must be more conscious of the word choice coming from the status quo. It is perhaps the biggest microagression of all.
