I find it funny that as someone who loves and adores children, I dont want a child of my own. What do I want is to help children around the world who are suffering greatly. Right now. Right this minute. Did you know that 22000 children die everyday due to poverty? Teenage girls in India and other third world countries are being raped and taken advantaged of just for existing. The world is such a cruel place when youre a vulnerable child. Im from a third world country and although Im lucky enough to be one of the kids whose parents can afford to send me and my sister to school, we never take it for granted because education is a privilege only a few can get. I remembered seeing kids who are my age approached our car during traffic selling us flowers, snacks and ice water. I remembered feeling so ashamed and wanted to hide even at a young age because I couldnt understand why kids are struggling to feed their families instead of going to school. It made me deeply sad even then. Its one of the reasons why I dont feel like going back to my country after leaving there since 2007. Things havent changed much and people are still struggling so much to put food on their table. I always tell my dad that Ill be carrying thousands of cash with me wherever I go so that I can give money to any child in need. Theres a quote I love from a movie called Amazing Grace when the main character said something like How can I live in this mansion where there are people out there who are living in chains and suffering? How can we enjoy this?. Of course, you cant save everyone in this world but we desperately need more compassion and empathy especially for the group that needs it the most, children.
