I find the entire Team140, WOA138 and PureTrance movements focus on a single sound and promoting that as real trance hilarious. To me looking at that is like looking at the equation 2+2=4 and declaring 4 as the answer and ignoring the process that it took to make 4 being the answer. TranceDJs were the first DJs in the business to look at all the genres, all the styles, and handpicking tracks for their sets, regardless of style, i remember Tiestos Nyana compilation which featured a Solarstone remix that was originally 130 - and pitched it to 136 to make it fit in the set, with amazing results to follow. TranceDJs were not hindered by trends, they played what they liked, the created these amazingly dynamic sets and dared to be different - now with the emergence of EDM most TranceDJs seem to be hung up on the 4 - forgetting that it takes 2+2 to make it. - there are EDM tracks out there that work really well, yet most Trance DJs swear to just being underground, and sticking to their guns and catering to their crowd to a level that leaves the one outcome - that DJs will once again revert to being glorified jukeboxes - as a very very likely outcome. I find it amusing whenever Orjan Nilsen is being defined as a Trance DJ - cause i do agree, hes the definition of a real trance DJ, not being hindered by any given style or sound, if he likes a track he makes it fit in his set. Take a set, any set, look at it as a whole and im left thinking this is trance, yet when you dissect the tracklist, you will find Techno, Electro, Proghouse, hell even some of that EDM stuff - cause it fits. - That is Trance, to me. Trance is a state of mind, the genre came after, the Pure Trance, The WAO138, The Team140 all came after, and are all attempts to harness and purify the end result of the equation i began with 2+2 = 4 - a real Trance DJ will look at the 2+2 - the movements mentioned focuses on the 4 - declaring the process of getting there irrelevant. Anyway, ill go back to being jetlagged now
