I find the true story of the Von Trapp family quite interesting: -They did not live opulently in a huge mansion and were not wealthy. In fact, both the Captain and Maria had lost most of their money in bad investments prior to leaving Austria. -Maria came to live with the family in 1926, not as a governess, but as a tutor for one of his daughters. -Maria married the captain in 1927 not in 1938. -The Captain had 7 children from his first wife and 3 more with Maria making a total of 10 children in the family. -The captain was warm and loving, not cold and distant.
