I find this topic to be very important and so I present it to each of you for your benefit. In 1961, Stanley Milgram conducted what is now known as the Milgram Experiments where people were asked to provide a shock to another person (torture or punishment, if you will) if the other person answered a question incorrectly. The basis of the experiment was to see how far someone would go when told to administer the tortuous shock to the other living human being by an authority figure. The results were astounding. Below I have posted 3 videos from the BBC recreating this experiment. Please watch the 3 videos (they are continuous, in order) and read the wikipedia article also listed below. This is where we are today. This is the kind of inhumanity we would (generally, as discovered) commit against each other if given the order to do so by an authority figure. This belief in authority is rampant in our society, as evidenced by police brutality, military brutality, government torture, etc. I present to you the Milgram Experiment Part 1 youtube/watch?v=BcvSNg0HZwk Part 2 youtube/watch?v=IzTuz0mNlwU Part 3 youtube/watch?v=CmFCoo-cU3Y Wikipedia entry on the Milgram Experiment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment
