I finished reading "Ever the Land" today, a story of an immigrant family from Sweden who homesteaded in Ottertail Co. Minnesota. It caused me to reflect that my generation is probably the last to remember large family gardens and what seemed like endless rows of potatoes and sweet corn and beans and peas and carrots to plant and hoe and dig. I also remember taking down the fence and seeding the garden to grass. I am so aware of the change in 70 years as to how we feed ourselves. I also recall driving a team of horses with my grandfather to feed cattle. Perhaps it is why I am driven to create a mini farm museum in the old washhouse so that others can see the memories.
