I first encountered John Rutter in 1988 in Sumter, SC. He came there to rehearse with the Sumter High Choir ahead of their performance of his Gloria at Carnegie Hall. I was ten years old, but my sister Karon Vincent Nation was in the choir, was responsible for me that afternoon, and (probably reluctantly) dragged me to her rehearsal. That day, I sat ten feet away from one of the legends of choral music as he taught a few hundred high schoolers the beauty of his writing and directing. Since then, Rutters music has had a profound influence on my life, and this song, The Lord Bless You and Keep You, has been a staple of my mental songbook for years. I never knew the intimacy and depth of meaning of this song until I watched this today. Watch the video, then go listen to some Rutter and find your faith deepened. https://youtube/watch?v=yNYvdQmzdQ8
