I found LUCY disappointing :( It starts off well enough, fast-paced and exciting, but instead of the LIMITLESS-meets-CRANK plotline I was hoping for, which could have been really fun with Besson at the wheel, it felt more like a bad MATRIX knockoff, with pointless psychobabble and an aimless story. I dont think its a spoiler to say Lucy herself becomes invincible almost immediately, which was the first disappointment; I was hoping for more Bourne-on-steroids moments where she outwits her enemies. Apparently, though, unlocking more of your cerebral cortex gives you powers to send people and cars flying out of your way, so she mostly just does that. Scarlett Johansson does her best Neo impression (and is much nicer to look at), but cant save the very silly dialogue shes given. The pseudoscience is, of course, ludicrous, and I dont think anyone expected otherwise, but that just makes it more frustrating how much screentime is devoted to explaining the goofy premise. Morgan Freemans character gives like a 30 minute intellectual presentation-punctuated with some bizarre clips, historical and not- about the brain that is so silly I almost left to get popcorn. That would be forgivable if the rest of the film followed up on the fun factor, but everything becomes overly serious, and, subsequently, ridiculous. I forgive Luc Besson movies for being over-the-top, its one of his most interesting qualities. I do not forgive them for being boring, and this one definitely was. LUCY is a skip. See it on DVD or streaming.
