I found myself drawn to the photo, so I figured I would research it more to see if it was authentic. Well it is and it isn’t, someone has ‘photo shopped it’ although I do believe they have done a good job, but why they ‘masked out the writing’ which gives details ‘650 officers and enlisted men of Auxiliary Remount Depot No 326, Camp Cody, a Cavalry unit in New Mexico, and then cropped it which sadly missed out the complete head I’ve no idea LOL. I found it on a post dated 2011, it seems the owner of the photo had her Grandpa, Joseph Albert Thomas is in photo, and he apparently is in the white bridle, about the 3rd from the top. Why they created this human representation of a horse head in 1915 I don’t know but what a beautiful tribute to all the horses that perished in WW1. Camp Cody was an army training camp for the National Guard units from North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. Soldiers received basic training there before leaving for the war in France. I hope you like both photos x
