I found this Ganoderma April 15, 2003, in southern Indiana. And never before or after have I seen another one. Notice the purple stems. The cap was 10 cm wide, tough and corky. Flesh was color of cinnamon. Pores were creamy white; up to 1cm long; forming a lip where the pores met the stem. The stem was 9 cm long; very hard + tough; purple-black; smooth; 17mm wide; knobs at the bottom. They grew at the bottom of a slender tree. I dont know what kind of tree but it was not a conifer. I was told that this is Ganoderma lucidum but it sure doesnt look like the ones I know. Can anyone help me with the identification?
