I found this transcript of a speech rather interesting. It is sort of old news in the particulars, but it is revealing in the generality that government tends toward tyranny - any government - and that powerful and arrogant people are attracted to it: people who get blustery at the thought that the "people" should rise up against their abuse of power. I do not know what the SOPA law was really like. I know that people who create "intellectual" property have as much right to protection from the abuse of their property as those who create real property. But, it does appear that the SOPA law was written in such a way that the government would have grabbed for itself a power it could use in abusive ways - a sort of "Patriot Act" for the internet. Always be attuned to the voice of the Tyrant. He is always there, no matter the political system in place or which party is in power. Beware of anyone who shows contempt for the wisdom and voice of "We the People". "We the People" are not always right, but no lawmaker, but their voice should always be heard and carefully considered. No lawmaker should ever easily go against that voice. At any rate, read the transcript of the young man who was at the center of the controversy. Sadly, he committed suicide some months later. But he proved that if the voice of the people is loud enough, it can move teh congress of the USA. democracynow.org/2013/1/14/freedom_to_connect_aaron_swartz_1986
