I frequently think about what would make real difference in the lives of people with disabilities. A few years ago Dean Kamen and DEKA invented the iBot, a wheelchair that could climb stairs/curbs, stand on two wheels, and go over virtually ANY terrain. The Centers for MEDICARE/MEDICAID services refused to pay for them. Without funding for the iBot, it was discontinued. Why cant our society invest in this WONDERFUL technology? It would help save lives by giving people like me the ability to climb curbs and get out of the street. Oh, did I mention wed be able to get into inaccessible businesses and public buildings?
