I genuinely admire every individual who strives to chase his / her passion by overcoming every other obstacle society has to offer. But lately I have been noticing this increasing trend of sensationalizing the idea of rejecting an offer from IBA. These engineering patriots will also blatantly assert that people choose IBA just to attain the tag of a social elite and that beyond a superficial reputation built mostly by individuals who graduated a long time ago, theres nothing much thats left of IBA. Well I dont know much about how the concept of reputation works but I do know that some of us who found a permanent place at this institution DID have to go through a lot of struggles to convince our parents and the greater society why BBA would be a more appropriate fit for us in a market thats already almost saturated with business graduates and in a society where every ABCD science / engg degree is still deemed to be more reputable than its business counterpart. We had to face endless rants and smirks from random strangers just because we claimed that a business degree wasnt something that we were doing merely to seek a decent a job in the future, but also because WE HAD A GENUINE PASSION FOR IT. As if its realistically impossible for someone to be passionate about being part of a corporation or even building a corporation for that matter! Corporate sellouts is the term that you choose to label us. Fine. Slaves for a fancy paycheck you think we are. Fine. But DONT YOU DARE TELL ME that this pledge, this journey did not involve any sacrifice. Dont tell me that I did not exert myself to the extent that any science / engg student did to follow his dream. Its high time that we start respecting individual choices and avoid meaningless stereotyping that will only lead this society towards further divide and more conflict.
