I get asked frequently about healthy snacking options. I am not a RD nor do I have a nutritional certification, but I have done a lot of research and have come a long way in the way I eat and, and Im pretty particular about the foods I choose to eat. So heres a list of my top snacking suggestions if you are trying to lose weight and/or build muscle. Basically you want to focus on protein, healthy carbs and yes, even fat. When hunger strikes pick one of these to hold you over. 1. 1 small handful of almonds, walnuts, pistachios or pecans 2. sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds 3. a hard boiled egg 4.1/2 of an avocado 5. a slice of cheese 6. raw vegetables (celery, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli) 7. organic beef jerky (pay attention to the portion size). 8. small spoonful of peanut butter or almond butter. 9. one serving of hummus 10. 1 or 2 slices of Applegate deli meat (such as turkey). 11. 1/2 of baked sweet potato 12. 1/2 of a piece of fruit. Fruit has many health benefits, but its also high in sugar. If you are trying to lose weight- keep fruit intake to one serving a day.
