I get really mad when I see my images posted without note that this is by Olesja Mueller (or Gallery Row Studio). I work my butt off sacrificing too much and this is just plain disrespectful that I have to somehow by luck stumble on the photos posted and request to be tagged Wth?? Magazines do it, clients do it, this got to stop. And I am not the only one. Lets just read what the copyright is. Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, that grants the creator of an original work exclusive (!) rights to its use and distribution. Typically, the duration of copyright is the whole life of the creator plus fifty to a hundred years from the creators death. The usual justification of copyright is to enable creators of intellectual wealth to financially support themselves and give them a motive to continue publishing their creations. Without copyright, artists, authors, journalists, photographers, or anyone else who creates non-material economic wealth would have to find another way to support themselves. With copyright in place, the author of a book or the photographer of a photograph can charge users who want to get a copy of their creations and thus support themselves. When a client books a session with a photographer, they dont get the copyright, but they get to use the images for their portfolio. Photographer holds the copyright and it is not cool not to mention that when photos are posted online for everyone to see....Plain respect for photographers work who created that image with your child is enough even without the lengthy legal references. Same for the magazines - most people read them online, so please dont justify that in print the credits will be given and online not. PUT THEM ONLINE TOO! Maybe for you it is just a photo of YOUR child, and so you post it, with no name of who took it. But maybe if you knew how much is behind that photo, how many sleepless nights, crazy trips, insane logistics, any kind of obstacles you can imagine, days without food or drink, stress and tears, and desire to get the best photos and results no matter what, maybe you would have a different idea....
