I get this sinking feeling when I see the look and the hesitation - TopicsExpress

I get this sinking feeling when I see the look and the hesitation in someone who struggles to connect with my work. Yesterday, I was successful in enlightening someone who I thought knew better. This made me realize I have failed to explain the deeper meaning behind something that appears cute or fun. I was able to explain that the process of my work is achieved by eliminating the use of drawing aides completely. Why am I doing this? I do so to challenge the assumption of value placed on the amount of time it takes to make my work. We live in the digital age where creation has the ability to make a quick and easy exit and where we have become desensitized to the use of a pencil and pen on paper. The work that which my being envelopes is a demonstration of taking something that would otherwise be created digitally or with the use of modern tools and turning it into a process that requires perseverance, diligence, and determination, and that is exceptionally physical, requiring intense concentration and acute perception.
