I got kicked out of a chocolate shop today. Ive never been kicked out of a shop in my life. I stopped to browse in a chocolate shop, always looking for the perfect chocolate with no soy lecithin (emulsifier), additives, flavours, colours, GM foods, just pure chocolate with three if not two basic ingredients and then natural flavourings like real nuts, dried fruit, real spices, essential oils, organic if possible and so on. So Im reading all the ingredient labels that look like they may be pure and the shop attendant asks me can she help. I told her what I was looking for and she said that the ones in my hand were the best chocolate from Belgium. I told her that it had soy lecithin and I was looking for one without the ingredient. She said there was nothing wrong with soya lecithin to which I replied - that it could be GM. With that she snatched the chocolate out of my hands and told me to get out and to not insult her, that she had been in the chocolate trade for 20 years and she had never had a request like mine and how dare I suggest that GM was in her chocolate. The chocolate I had in my hand was not certified organic, every other lolly and chocolate in the shop was laced with additives and probably GM foods but she kept shoving me out the door and stood in her doorway with hands on hips. There is a first for everything. When you speak a truth its amazing how many people put their head in the sand or hands on hips. But for some they may take that information and look further into the matter and find that what they thought to be truth was merely common not the truth at all. Soy lecithin in chocolate is common, but is it right? I sell 100% organic cacao nothing added because I wanted people to have the right to real foods, no additives, preservatives, flavourings, GM foods, just the best and purest of foods. You can eat 100% cacao as is or you can make your own chocolate. Its your choice as to whether you want to support an industry that puts dubious ingredients and GM foods into their products or start fighting with your dollar. Ask the questions get shop keepers thinking and lets make a change and stop complacency with food choices.
