I got out for a very short time this afternoon on one of the Rock Island Conservation Club lakes. The Vexilar FLX28 marked a lot of fish that came up to look but only bumped the Ratfinkee with wax worm. Once I went to the deeper water on the deep side of brush piles I found fish that were more active and willing to take the offering. Since it was a short trip I wanted to go as light as possible, which meant dropping down to carrying a couple of rods, Frabill folding chair, ice scoop, camera bag, bait, Vexilar flasher and the new K-Drill. This drill is fantastic. It is light weight, drills very fast and with the new Milwaukee Fuel unit as the power house and Read Lithium battery it still had a full charge after drilling at least 10 holes. I never thought I would say this about any piece of ice fishing equipment, other than my Vexilar, but I dont want to go ice fishing without having my K-Drill for drilling holes for a transducer, scouting, when walking down to area where the only access is steep banks or on a short/quick trip like today. On a note of safety - any anglers venturing out on these lakes should keep a close eye on the conditions. In the very short time I was there one inch of ice was lost, and in some places we have already lost 3 to 4 inches. I also found that the ice was thinner as I went towards the middle and deeper water. I would not recommend anyone trying the south end of the west lake where there are some strange springs on the bottom in that area. This is where we have had at least two people fall through in the past, so beware!
