I got the number 6, so herrre we go. Six things you didnt know or might not have known about me: 1) Im an only child (albeit, I have step-siblings, however theyre a little older than me and Ive always identified with being an only child) and most of my friendships developed and or have been maintained by internet communication. 2) I started traveling when I was 17 years old thanks to my amazing father and invaluable advice from my step brother, Kareem Mattazzi. Since then Ive been to 4 continents, 12 countries, 31 U.S. states and I dont know how many cities. At one point, I lived in Turkey with my friend Rebecca for a summer and it was probably one of the most memorable experiences of my life. 3) I met the owner of my label J Savv Fowler at a Sally Beauty salon. I was making fun of him for having fancy water. It was VOSS water. I remember that it read it was Natural Norwegian Spring Water and I told him I had a friend from Norway, Svein Brunstad, an amazing DJ. We started talking about music and how I loved to sing and after a while of knowing each other, I was signed to his label, Peace Uv Mine. 4) My mother and I almost died during her pregnancy with me. My umbilical chord was suffocating me and she had to have an emergency c-section. She told me the doctors thought that if I were to live, she would die. Luckily it didnt happen that way. I got to have her for 25 years of my life :) 5) I met Bill Murray once outside of the FELA! musical in NYC. I was with friends, Duke Amayo and Seun Kuti. I guess Bill assumed that I was apart of the show for that reason and the attire I had on. I was so in shock that Bill Murray was talking to me, when he congratulated me on my performance, all I could muster out was, Thank you. 6) The homestretch. Hmm, the last thing you might not have known about me is that I had a wonderful dog named Lucky. I was there when he was born, I was 8 years old. I couldnt be there when he died. He lived for 17 years. I havent gotten another dog since, the next time I do though, I think Ill get one like him, a shih-tzu, theyre awesome dogs; and maybe a friend for him.
