I got to see how politics works in the north. I looked at Windigo - TopicsExpress

I got to see how politics works in the north. I looked at Windigo Education Council and it was overseen by Bearskin Lake, Sachigo Lake, Cat Lake, and Slate Falls. The organization ran very well when I was on board. I saw factions in the NNEC organization as a board member and saw the power struggles within the tribal councils. Lac Seul was allowed to remain stand alone as a board representative while being under a tribal council technically giving them two voices as they are under IFNA. Thats a conflict of interest. The Chiefs Steering Group needed to take control of that situation and introduce a new document altogether addressing that policy and I dont think they were advised properly on that issue. Unfortunately I was forced to step down as a board member at a community level at that time and could not continue. I hear that Wasaya is now controlled by investors from Toronto and is no longer controlled by the Chiefs. What went wrong? Wasaya did well when it was run by Pipestone and Nahmaykoos and serviced Shibogama and Windigo area communities. They got too big and brought in other communities as partners and alliances shifted. After much mis-managment we no longer control the airline. My advice to Bearskin Lake is to partner in with North Star Air and oversee that a board of directors is composed of Muskrat Dam, Sachigo Lake, Bearskin Lake, Weagamow Lake and a few other communities and keep it manageable. Thats my opinion on the matter.
