I gotta hand it to addicts. The rest of us live In a world where everybody is waiting for some blind, random disaster or some sudden disease; the addict has the advantage of knowing what will most likely what is waiting for him down the road. Hes taken some control over his ultimate fate, and his addiction keeps the cause of his death from being a total surprise. My brother rationalized that we all gonna die one way or another. What he didnt count on was the absolute hell he put his wife, his daughter and our grandmother Della and our mother through. The addiction didnt let him see the day he got lost on the job. Or the day his company fired him for his addiction. The last time I paid him a visit , he kept asking me George where is our little brother. I cant find him George is the oldest brother. I am the little brother. He died curled up in a fetal position. He was sober. But I think he had been already gone for near twenty years. Sent from my iPhone
