I gotta say that the first week back to work after being off 3 - TopicsExpress

I gotta say that the first week back to work after being off 3 months was interesting to say the least! LOL The first day, I found I had totally lost my shifting rhythm..scraped (not ground) every gear and couldnt down shift worth a dern...LOL Had to relearn where the controls were on the dash...pushed in the wrong brake button and couldnt figure out why the tractor was not moving for a second or two! LOL Had to look at my map to figure out my routes...been running the same routes for 6 years...sheesh! LOL Got a load of empty racks going to a Ford plant that I had been into very often up in Ypsilante and could not remember how to get there...off on the exit, go a few blocks turn right and Voila! easy peezy, after I called for directions...LOL Did two drop and hooks in KC and naturally both trailers needed work done to them before I could leave. LOL I asked the boss who was making sure the trailers were good while I was gone...LOL Both times it threw me behind on schedule...naturally. LOL BUT I could still back up though I did oversteer a couple of times...it was actually pretty ugly the first time. LOL..but I got it in and did not hit anything! :-) I had thought I had been off long enough to not get into snow, but of course, hit sleet and snow in IL on Monday nite...aint it always the way? LOL But, when I walked in the office on Monday morning to do my come back to work paperwork and drug test...if my boss would have died right then, it would have taken the undertaker a month to get the grin off of his face, he was so glad I was back...and Charlie, my truck, had less than 3k more miles than when I had parked him...so the boss had only used him if absolutely necessary like he said he would while I was gone...good boss!!! :-) Dispatch too smiled and patted me on the back and grinned like possums when they saw me in work clothes ready to go to work. They did not load me on Tuesday afternoon after I delivered in MI, but let me lay over so I would not get too tired after being so sick...yes, I get layover pay. Have to admit that it was kind of fun to remember where my favorite stops were, to check on how new buildings were coming along while I was gone and to see folk at truck stops that I always stop at that actually remembered me and had wondered where I had been. :-) I am sure that this next week will be back to running my tail off as usual now that I got my seat back under me so to speak, but that is a good thing...I did not die though it was a close thing, feel better than I have in 5 years, and actually look forward to the next load tomorrow after I deliver in KC or drop as the case may be for the first time in years...I am once again what I have always been...just a lady driver. :-)
