I had a blast today talking weather safety with the kids at Safety - TopicsExpress

I had a blast today talking weather safety with the kids at Safety Town in Conway then talking storm chasing and weather safety at Easter Seals in Little Rock. The kids at Safety Town were just so smart and they know what to do in the event they have to take shelter from a tornado or lightning. They were able to identify the safe and not safe conditions. They thought it was a good idea to wear a helmet when taking shelter from a tornado because you dont want to hurt your brain. They had a concern about their pets being outside during a thunderstorm and thought it was important to bring them in. They know that if they hear thunder to go indoors. I was impressed that they knew to get out of the pool, lake or beach in a thunderstorm. Some of them told me the lifeguards at the pool they go to yell for them to get out when they hear thunder. Excellent advice. A few of them said their dads stay outside when there is a tornado to look for it. Hmmmm I guess I cant comment on that, but they knew to get into the center part of the house and to stay away from windows. At Easter Seals it was more about chasing but the group (about 100 or so) did acknowledge the severe weather safety advice especially those that live in upstairs apartments or two story houses, to get downstairs. They knew the dangers of lightning and several of them said thunder really scared them. Todays presentations wraps up a busy spring and summer where I spoke to several schools from Conway, Little Rock, Sherwood, Gillette, one retirement center, cub scouts, boy scouts, youth groups and even had one event cancelled due to severe weather. A big THANK YOU to those who invited me out to talk storm chasing and severe weather safety. Here are a few pictures from Safety Town in Conway.
