I had a chance to catch up on the circus that occurred today in place of the weekly city council meeting. Im very disappointed in all of our city council members, each for a different reason. Im disappointed to hear a temporary sales tax being continued (which hurts the poor in our community more than any other tax). Im also disappointed to hear money being repurposed or earmarked away from their original recommendation by police, fire, and public works department heads. After using various parks in our city and driving through two lakes (made due to failing infrastructure) this evening on the way home, Ive come to the conclusion that not a single dollar needs to go towards building a soccer complex (which at this point wouldnt even qualify for private financing) until we get our house right first. As far as Im concerned, the most prudent and conservative way to look at the budget going forward is: 1.Public Safety 2.Infrastructure 3.Taking care (or the selling) of our public assets.
