I had a chance to talk to my buddy Bo Goergen and a few others - TopicsExpress

I had a chance to talk to my buddy Bo Goergen and a few others today about his unfortunate DQ on Monday and expanded the short item in my blog on he first round. Here is what it says now: In a sad note, my good friend and sometimes PBA roommate from the 1980s Bo Goergen was disqualified after starting out with 474 for two games. Goergen was using a polyester spare ball with a trademarked Iowa Hawkeyes logo on it. The rule states that this is cause for disqualification, but its unfortunate that there couldnt just be a warning or fine on a first offense, with the ball taken out of play, especially since Ive heard so many stories of selective enforcement of this and other rules. Logically, there shouldnt be more of a penalty for this than there is for using a ball that weighs out illegal after a round, which carries just a penalty of a fine but not disqualification. Theoretically, you could gain an advantage with an illegaly weighted ball used for first shots while one polyester spare ball is pretty much the same as another. I understand about protecting PBA registered sponsors and trademarks, but Bos penalty is like the death penalty for jaywalking. Fine him and take the ball out of play. Bo posted this on Facebook on Monday: WOW! Another black eye for the PBA. I drop my PBA card, and just get disqualified with no warning for using a Iowa Hawkeyes spare ball 1 time in 2 games after being 75 over for 2. How can they tell you that this event does not count towards 2 cashes in PBA events and have all other PBA rules apply? Unbelievable what our great sport has turned into. And he later posted this: After reflecting on what happened today, Im just so Dissappointed that I assumed the PBA rules were not enforced throughout the book when told this tourney did not count towards amatuer cash rule. Then to have so many texts from the best bowlers in the world, giving examples of same situation, different outcomes. A bowler who won a title using an illegal spare ball, was told he couldnt use on tv, and wasnt even fined. Ton Clarks response was its a spare ball, it has no advantage. lack of consistency throughout the years on the PBA has been their downfall. Certain players can get away with language so inappropriate, have unbelievable disparaging comments towards the PBA, and they look the other way. Im not going to stoop to their level, gonna hold my head high, and bowl well next week. I hope that someday the next owners will do their research and run a more efficient business model that ALL members can be proud of. Good luck to all my friends out here this week, Ill be rooting for them. On this topic, I also must note that the Xtra Frame guys never knew exactly what happened and thats why it wasnt discussed on Monday. They were planning to open Tuesdays broadcast with the topic.
