I had a client of mine whos husband had a stroke. The nicest people. She listed her home for sale. I stayed in touch with her to see how she was doing. She needed a basketball rim and pole removed as the agent wanted. We went out and removed it. Still after months, no sale. I had a successful real estate agent contact my clients. She found the presentation materials completely wrong. She helped with suggestions, including knew interior pictures and descriptions. Finally the home was sold.My customer was happy for the time being. She called me worried. The home inspector had found a few items needing repaired. However her main concern was having to take out a loan to pay for new drains to the street. Upon discussing it. I said I will help you. My wife will come in to help you pack for half an afternoon. I do not do drains and am backlogged months. We will drop our schedule and repair your list and your drains for 75% of what the drain company wanted in money. My wife loved the couple and helped her pack. The husband who had the stroke could talk, and had a sharp mind. I got to learn thru my lovely wife, how the couple met each other during band in high school. He caught her with a special sandwich his mom used to pack for him, that he shared with her on the bus. A lovely couple. As part of the move, She had to get rid of all of his trade related paperwork (architect/engineer). This was a major milepost in both of their lives. My customer gave me 5 old tool boxes of trade related tools. As I handled them, thinking of her husband using these tools 30+ years ago, it brought a certain honor and smile to my face. It made me think of my customer, her smiling face, happy to finally having sold her home. It made me think of him warmly shaking my hand and telling me, You are a good man, ******** ****** (arrdvarks). PS: My helper on this job was a former prescription opiate addict. I remember him with only 17 days. Unable to sit thru an entire meeting. Outside pacing. He walked miles a day as he fought the fight of his life. On this day smiling, he looked back at a job well done. Over a year and a half since he had 17 days, 6 pack abs and healthy, this young man learned a trade that could pay him upwards of 70 dollars an hour if and when he helps an elderly woman with a stroke victim husband, who are selling there home. I have been patient as this young man learns a work ethic that he never had. He is coming to work Monday. Should be able to help him learn several aspects of my trade. On this hot, hot summer day I loved a former addict, I loved a beautiful wife, I loved a beautiful elderly small waif of a southern bell and her stroke victim, tall strapping husband. For this one day at a time, mission accomplished, I completed my higher powers work for the day. Most importantly. For one day I enjoyed a serene, happy, sober day. --- arrdvarks, Anonymous.
