I had a thought on the way home that was kind of a compilation of other peoples input on different subjects. As someone who runs a small business myself, I can say with total certainty that if someone came in and asked for a small donation to help fund an elementary schools smart board- or any device to aid in learning, I would absolutely take part. One of the things I have helped with before went down like this: Benefit dinner- each person pays for their plate of food (small income towards goal) and a donation jug or whatever would be on hand for people who want to just simply donate. Before hand a team could go out with a detailed flier describing what a Smart Board is and what it is used for to all of the local businesses (especially small ones) and ask if they would be willing to contribute a donation- which could be monetary or just something from their business we could put a raffle on at the dinner. I have had gift certificates for my own business bring in an amount that well exceeded the monetary value of the gift card itself, so even a $20 gift card could bring in who knows how much. We could sell dinner plates in the form of tickets before hand to get a good idea of attendance, and send information on the event home with each student as well as ask the businesses to hang fliers in promotion of the event. The costs for us would be the food and possibly space rental as well as utensils for eating- but its a common type of benefit or charity style drive and they generally do fairly well. I felt like I would share because chances are I would forget about this thought before our next meeting. :)
