I had a very effective and productive day on The Hill talking with members of Congress and their staff about our dispute over the casino in downtown Duluth. Things feel different this time - we are finding a lot of sympathy on our position that the NIGC has not applied a consistent standard across the country. There are dozens of agreements across the country similar to ours, but no others have been voided in this way by a political appointee. As time goes on, the citys position is strengthened because they have not applied this new mysterious standard to any other agreement. Much discussion of a legislative option. Still far to go, but the tide is turning in our direction. As always, our goal is to have a fair negotiated settlement that will benefit both communities. Im more confident than ever that the city will prevail in the courts because of the grossly unfair regulatory action taken against us (at the request of the Band) but both parties benefit by resolving this through negotiations rather than through the courts. This issue will never be fully resolved until we have negotiated settlement. We will continue to advocate for our rights under the signed contracts that established this downtown casino in the first place. Lets resolve this once and for all for the benefit of both communities.
