I had a very interesting meeting with the West Midlands Labour Police and Crime Commissioner the other day. Key issues included: the importance of tailoring police services locally (different areas need a different focus and listening to local police leaders achieves better results); deprived areas in the West Midlands have been hit hardest by cuts meaning an increase in crime; and more police on the ground prevents crime from happening in the first place making it a sensible and forward looking investment - why then is the government cutting police numbers?
