I had a wonderful surprise yesterday. Kirtley Leigh and I drove up to the tablelands. Leigh asked me to book at a restaurant we had not previously been to - Flynns Restaurant at Yungaburra. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess, the lovely Sonia, who turns out to be a hi-tech re-breather diver, and her partner, Chef and owner Liam Flynn - who drives a monster Ducatti motorcycle. They had prepared a birthday special for me at Leighs request including a bottle of French Champagne and a divine chocolate birthday cake. One of my presents was a unique custom made champagne glass embossed with, alas, my age - 70 yrs. It is a week or so early but since I will be in PNG on the real day , this was close enough! Now not only are our hosts delightful, the restaurant is fabulous and the food the best I have had in a restaurant for many years. Im still drooling over the Tasmanian Scallops and succulent braised beef! Just fabulous. Thanks to Giselle and Troy Dunstan for giving Leigh the tip. If you have not been to Flynns then do yourself a favour and go!!!
