I had been working on my project for a number of hours when the software suddenly froze up. All the usual options and tools were greyed out. A spinning wheel replaced my cursor, for the moment, I was stuck. Eventually a small error message appeared. Everything has failed it read. I pressed OK. The screen went blank, flashed white and a then a text input appeared as if requiring a password. The computer itself was making various whirring sounds that seemed to be getting slightly louder the longer I waited. I carefully typed something into the text input. I basically typed the most complicated while easily remembered, yet completely unguessable password I could think of. I pressed enter. The screen flashed white again. The whirring sound started getting louder, and my printer suddenly started printing pages with a small amount of text on them. Each page had a number printed on it. 30, then 29, 28, and so on. The pages kept printing until the numbers read 3, 2 then my printer let out a menacing beep and a red light flashed. There was no paper left to print the final page. At this stage I started unplugging everything from the wall. I didnt bother switching anything off first. I just yanked the power cords out of the sockets as quickly as I could. The room went dark apart from a flickering lamp in the corner. The sounds of the printer and computer silenced. I tip-toed out of the room. I decided to leave a note for my workmates in the next office who were currently out to lunch. Im taking a break from the office for a while The bulb in the lamp in the corner of the room burns out a few moments later, leaving the room in complete darkness. A shuffle of activity light and sound echoing through the hallway as my colleagues return from lunch. Not seeing the note at first, a few of them sit at their computers, moving the curser to wake the display from sleep only to discover a spinning wheel instead of an arrow. Tools and buttons greyed out in the background. A tiny error displays on each screen moments apart. Everything has failed [OK]
