I had decided to ignore the Hurricane Ivan 10th anniversary. - TopicsExpress

I had decided to ignore the Hurricane Ivan 10th anniversary. Pictures, stories, nightmare for the Florida panhandle. Im rare, Im an actual native, born right here....well, in the hospital, not right HERE, although sometimes it feels like it, but I digress......Ive experienced every tropical storm and every hurricane here for a half century. May we never experience the likes of Ivan again. Youll have to pardon the lack of humor on this one, but I do have something to say about the topic in general. The American economy has been awful for just about everybody. So especially in the last few years, Ive heard numerous people say that what our local economy needs is another good storm. Im going to publicly ask that this not be said in my presence again. Ive worked with the public all of my life, and Ive met all kinds of people, so even when I personally disagree with something said, I tend to let most of what I hear pass by. But this one offends me. In the months and YEARS that my customers came in, trying to put their lives and homes back together, many broke down in tears. Lives were lost, homes were destroyed, childhoods disrupted, families stretched as commutes, hours, and livelihoods were forever changed. We all need an improved economy, but one should ask at what expense---homes and memories destroyed just to make a few sales? Lives disrupted and terrorized for a few bucks more? Lives lost so that you can make money on the destruction? Really, I dont want to hear it anymore. That thought is immoral and offensive. So, on the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Ivan, remember it well enough to think about what you are thinking and saying long after this anniversary passes.
