I had never been to Piu before today. In fact, I had to ask where in the world it was because all I knew was that it was in Falealili; an hours drive away from town, and remember briefly reading about a conflict some years back about its formal recognition in one of the biggest territorial constituencies in the country. I drove like an old woman along the access road leading off from the main road, which took me straight to the little village called Piu. The kindly village pastor introduced himself. I did the same. Right then he said, I know you. My wife and I read your articles in the paper, especially the one about the malu. My favourite is the one you wrote about the school girl and that videotape. Why am I telling you this? Because I wrote that around August 2011 from Wellington and someone in a village Ive never been to, still remembers it three years later. It makes me happy because the only thing that people like me want is to be heard, to be read, to educate someone just a little bit, to write about people noone ever cares to write about and I want to continue doing it all my life :)
