I think everyone knows what this is by now, but just in case: ALS is a terrible disease affecting nerve cells and the spinal cord that deprives people of their ability to control their muscles. In later stages of the disease, people can become completely paralyzed. The challenge is to donate $100 to fight the disease. Or you can opt out by dumping a bucket of ice water on your head and passing along the challenge. If you opt out of the $100 donation, smaller donations are still encouraged.
