I had no idea this was even going on. There is a part of me that thinks this is a good idea, in so much as that it will stop kids being bullied for their dinner money. But there is another part of me that finds this quite troubling. Nothing seems to be personal these days. More and more, people are happy to give up as much information about themselves (and others) as is asked - without question. Some internet shopping sites ask an incredible amount of personal questions in order to sign up. I could go on Facebook and tell you the name and address of a stranger and when they are going on holiday, I could probably even supply photos of their house and most prized possessions. Yet, even though I think Im fairly internet savvy and regularly clean my internet history and cookies, Facebook often suggests pages it thinks I may be interested in from things I had randomly been looking up online. There are days I tell myself Im going to delete my account yet I still come back, so Im as guilty as anyone. The majority of us have no idea just how much of our personal information is stored and how safe it is or isnt. Fingerprinting kids without parents permission could be argued as teaching them its the norm to give up their personal details to whoever asks, or even worse, act as the first stepping stone to feeling its ok to share their lives online. Which just means more pictures of cats and peoples dinners, and thats not good for any of us. pcpro.co.uk/news/education/386290/schools-fingerprinted-more-than-1m-kids-without-consent news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8593727.stm civilrightsmovement.co.uk/are-biometric-cards-for-childrens-school-dinners-ethical.html
