I had the BEST run of my life tonight!!! It was a 5k, it was the slowest I have gone in a long time and I walked on several of the up hill parts. But my son did it with me. I was going to go by myself and he said he wanted to go. I told him I was going to do three miles, a distance he has never done before. I told him I intended to do my full three miles, but I would take the route that he would be able walk back home if it felt like too much. He still wanted to go. We made it a little over a mile jogging with no breaks, then he started to panic, thinking about how hard it was getting. I had him walk and told him how to breath to make himself calm down. He was fine and I told him I would walk him home. He DID NOT want to go home. He was determined to make it all the way. We ran the last two miles, walking only on the uphill portions. My son would once give up if things felt a little tough, but tonight, tonight he gave it his best!! Tonight, he went a distance he has never gone before!! I have never felt more pride. I know many kids could do this, but for him, this was such a great accomplishment and for me, it was better than completing any race on my own.
