I had the honor of doing Donald Krambeck’s Veterans History - TopicsExpress

I had the honor of doing Donald Krambeck’s Veterans History Project (VHP) interview last Friday at AIB’s annual event for Veterans Day. Don, 94 years young, was a WW II pilot, flew “The Hump”- The Himalayas. 155 dangerous missions at night in B-24’s and C-46’s (Ol’ Dumbo). They had no lights, high octane gas & supplies for The Flying Tigers in China. They had to find the airfields where just two barrels lit with fuel at end of gravel runway marked landing site as they approached through treacherous mountains. General “Vinegar Joe” Stillwell of US chose Don to fly him, his troops, supplies and mules into a dangerous jungle site in Burma to rebuild part of the Burma Road. Very decorated flyer with Air Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters. And, before being assigned to China/Burma/India theatre, he was flight instructor who trained many combat pilots. 3 of his went on to become American aces in Europe. Salute to Don on Veterans Day.
