I had the most wonderful time in the woods this evening. I was able to hunt a major trail on the edge of a cotton field and expected heavy traffic. At 6:55, a group of 7 does came by headed to the cotton. The lead doe, all 120 pounds of her left with a bilateral pneumothorax. She made it to a powerline about 80 yards away when I lost sight of her. I returned to my truck and brought out my 3 month old Lacy pup, Zoey. Zoey and I picked up the track at the impact site and followed good blood to the powerline where it seemed to stop at a briar thicket that was over my head tall. Zoey took me around one side of the thicket and then into it on the left flank. Once in the middle of the thicket, Zoey stopped. When I leaned forward to see what she was doing, she was standing by this doe licking and chewing on her. What a GREAT PUP! She has a bright future ahead of her. We just have to keep her working to gain that experience. If you have ever thought of getting a tracking dog, Rebecca Fielder Bacot Ferrell has a great operation and really loves her Lacy Dogs!
