I had the opportunity to host a special viewing night on the 0.9M/36” telescope last night, under cloudless skies, with a New Moon, and 1.5-arcsecond seeing conditions! We looked at a good cross-section of objects, including Jupiter and its moons, Theta Geminorum (aka FK5 261), a binary pair, M44 (aka The Beehive), M42 (The Orion Nebula), M45 (The Pleiades, or The Seven Sisters), M40 (The Worst Messier, actually a binary pair), NGC2392 (the Eskimo Nebula), M66 ( the Leo Triplet), M53 (a globular cluster in Coma Berenices), M51 (the Whirlpool galaxy), and M104 (the Sombrero galaxy). So far, these have been the best skies in 2014. A good time was had by all, including one who was celebrating her birthday.
